Let’s end suicide together

*** Trigger Warning – this message contains facts about suicide***

Hi All,

I hope your week is going well.

Let me disrupt your morning and hit you with a hard truth - 3,249 Australians ended their lives by suicide in 2022. Suicide is the leading cause of death in people aged between 15-44.

This is an ongoing tragedy, but there is something that we can all do about it. Check in on your mates, your colleagues and your family. De-stigmatise the conversation around depression and mental health. It is ok not to feel ok. It is definitely ok to talk about it.

This year, for the fifth year running, I am doing the push up challenge - 3249 pushups in 24 days. I do it for the challenge, but mainly to raise awareness around mental health, and to support Lifeline, the 24hr crisis hotline started by Wesley Mission in 1963. Lifeline fields thousands of calls from people sometimes just needing to talk to someone, but also from people going through grave personal trauma who literally might need to be talked off a ledge. These must be some of the toughest types of phone calls to handle and is a vital service in the fight to end suicide.

Imagine the impact that every life lost to suicide has on their family, on their circle of friends, in their workplace, in their school, and in their community. The trauma caused by the loss of that life is far reaching.

Now imagine that you could change that outcome. You can contribute to Lifeline or help to raise awareness or just check in on those you care about.

If you would like to support this worthy cause, feel free to click the link below and donate what you can. Every dollar helps.

As an added incentive to donate, I have got some stretch goals / challenges that I will undertake if donations hit certain milestones (videos will be made and uploaded to Youtube for proof):

$250 – eat a raw egg and smash a raw egg into my head, before doing my daily push ups

$500 – do a 500 push up session in one of my wife’s dresses

$1,000 – shave the centre of my head (no.2), leaving the sides long and keep it for a whole day

$1,500 – TBC (Feel free to suggest something)

$2,000 – TBC (Feel free to suggest something)

*** Bonus Prize*** For anyone who donates $500 or more, I will come to your house and cook you a three-course dinner for two – the menu can be discussed and customised.

Thanks for spending the time to read this and my gratitude if you do decide to donate and help me in the fight to prevent suicide.

Supporting Lifeline

Lifeline exists to ensure no person in Australia has to face their darkest moments alone.
We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to listen, without judgement, to any person in Australia who is feeling overwhelmed, experiencing crisis or longs to be heard.

Experience shows us it is through connection that we can find hope. With Australians struggling with cost-of-living pressures, increasing inflation, housing insecurity, global instability, and recovery after extreme weather events, our crisis support services have remained in high demand with our voice and text services receiving up to 4,000 contacts a day from help seekers. Our partnership with The Push Up Challenge has played a vital role in raising funds to support the delivery of suicide prevention and crisis support services at a time where we have never been needed more.
