Legal practice - mental health, fitness, & making time for me

I'm completing 3,249 push-ups in 24 days to raise awareness for mental health in Australia - but specifically awareness in the legal profession.

Legal practice is demanding. The hours can be long, the mental load often comes home, and the substance of some matters can be traumatising. Also, lawyers can feel an expectation to be error-free geniuses, paragons of judgement, sensitive, forceful, advocates, bull dogs, mediators, profitable, affordable, approachable, presentable, involved, removed, and in total control of their personal lives.

Lawyers do not need to "be it all".

We are all works in progress and one of the most valuable skills any person can have is a practice of being kind to oneself.

No skill is innate. Many lawyers are actively unkind to themselves. Some have unkindness directed towards them by colleagues, clients, and others. Being kind to oneself can be treated as a habit to build; one which can compound personal growth and wellness.

I am taking part in this challenge improve my boundaries and promote my wellness.

For those who struggle with their mental health or feel there is little hope, services like Lifeline are available. Having open honest conversations with colleagues, friends, general medical practitioners, and specialists can also be important steps to address mental health hurdles.

I am doing this challenge for me; BUT, if you believe it is important to you, you can support Lifeline by making a tax-deductible donation to my page (or directly to them).

Every dollar helps #pushforbetter mental health outcomes in Australia by funding much-needed mental health services and initiatives.

Supporting Lifeline

Lifeline exists to ensure no person in Australia has to face their darkest moments alone.
We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to listen, without judgement, to any person in Australia who is feeling overwhelmed, experiencing crisis or longs to be heard.

Experience shows us it is through connection that we can find hope. With Australians struggling with cost-of-living pressures, increasing inflation, housing insecurity, global instability, and recovery after extreme weather events, our crisis support services have remained in high demand with our voice and text services receiving up to 4,000 contacts a day from help seekers. Our partnership with The Push Up Challenge has played a vital role in raising funds to support the delivery of suicide prevention and crisis support services at a time where we have never been needed more.
